West Central kindergartners and 6th graders from Mr. and Mrs. Wolles’ classes visited the Immersion Center at Jane Addams Elementary during December. West Central students met children who have recently relocated to Sioux Falls and are learning to read, write, and speak English. Students from all over the world attend school at the Immersion Center, and they spend up to 18 months at the center, before they are ready to attend their neighborhood school in Sioux Falls.
West Central students donated new board games to the children in Mrs. Elder’s fourth grade class. Kindergartners experienced the joy of giving, and they were genuinely thrilled to give the board games as gifts. Students at the Immersion Center were overjoyed when they learned that they could take their game home and keep it forever.
The West Central students spent the morning reading books, playing games, and interacting with their new friends. It was a lesson in diversity for all students, as they learned to respect each others differences and value diverse cultural backgrounds.
Mrs. Elder, fourth grade teacher at the Immersion Center, is a 2008 graduate of West Central High school. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wolles.
